Translation process for topics

For the UI translations (mostly single strings) we follow a master language approach which makes sense. When we start to translate whole topics, we should probably think about taking a different approach allowing inputs from other languages than the master language aswell. I found an academic paper (PDF) describing some alternative approaches. Maybe a useful read. Advanced approaches may require a supporting tool.
