The plugin is in version 6743 (2010-03-14), but debian package install version 5965 (2010-01-07).

thanks to bigbaadbob and gac410 (yes, it was an irc conversation that finally sparked it) I realised that an apt-get uprgade- had broked my =reprepro - one simple upgrade command, and the repository is now working again :/
