Item12823: Mark auto-generated emails according to RFC 3834
Priority: Normal
Current State: Closed
Released In: 2.0.0
Target Release: major
RFC 3834 makes recommendations for automatic responses to email, such as vacation notifications, and specifies a way in which emails can be marked "generated automatically, do not vacation notification" in chapter five. The RFC mentions cron-generated emails explicitly (so applies to
MailerContrib), but its intention ("do not send an auto-response for this email") is useful for Foswiki-generated emails more generally, such as those generated around registration and password reset.
Emails sent out by Foswiki should thus simply be marked with the following header:
Auto-Submitted: auto-generated
Please also add this header to other places where emails are being generated in Foswiki.

MS Exchange may need
X-Auto-Response-Suppress: ALL
, see
here, I haven't tested if it works like that or needs other settings to be made on the Exchange server, and even then I'm not sure if we'd want to add/support that...
