The following text:

is chewed up by the WysiwygPlugin and turned into:

If I remove the trailing backslashes, it retains the original formatting.

I am not sure when this was fixed, but this works now on the 1.1 release branch. I am not planning on making any changes for this item, because it works :) Therefore, I am closing this task.
