Intermission
Undergraduate Policy
Course convenors or their nominee may grant to a candidate intermission1 from study for a period of not more than 12 months (two consecutive standard semesters) at one time. Documentation supporting the reasons for Intermission may be requested in exceptional circumstances.
The total period of intermission available to undergraduate candidates throughout a degree is three years. The total period of intermission available to honours candidates throughout the honours program is one year. Documentation supporting applications for intermission may be requested in exceptional circumstances.
The period of intermission taken by a candidate shall be counted towards the time limits for course duration2.
This is subject to ESOS guidelines3 which states "Under the Educational Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (ESOS Act), intermission for international students on a study visa can only be approved on grounds of genuine illness or compassionate reasons. Students are required to provide supporting documentation for their application."
